What is FGM/C ( Female Genital Mutilation)/CUTTING

FGM stands for Female Genital Mutilation, which is also known as female circumcision or female genital cutting. It is a harmful and invasive practice that involves the partial or total removal of external female genitalia or other injury to female genital organs for non-medical reasons. FGM is typically carried out on young girls, often between infancy and adolescence, and it is prevalent in some cultures and communities around the world.
 

FGM is considered a violation of human rights, as it can have severe physical, psychological, and emotional consequences for the affected individuals. The procedure is usually performed without anesthesia, and it can cause immediate complications like severe pain, bleeding, infections, and even death. In the long term, FGM can lead to chronic pain, difficulty urinating, menstrual problems, sexual dysfunction, and complications during childbirth.

 

The practice of FGM is widely condemned by international organizations and human rights groups, and efforts are being made to raise awareness, prevent its occurrence, and provide support to those affected.
